FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State's Jordan Ribera has been invited to participate in the inaugural TD Ameritrade College Baseball Home Run Derby held on July 7 at Omaha's Rosenblatt Stadium. The event will air on CBS on July 11 at 10 a.m. PT.
"We are very proud of Jordan," said head coach Mike Batesole. "He has been a leader in the clubhouse, he is on track to graduate and he had an All-American season on the field. He will represent the Valley well."
Ribera is one of eight individuals from across the country to compete in the first ever college baseball home run derby. The junior smashed a nation leading 27 home runs in 63 games. He hit .343 on the season with 49 of his 86 hits for extra bases.
"I am thrilled and honored to represent Fresno State in Omaha again," said Ribera. "It is a once in a life time opportunity and it's will be exciting to participate in the final event held at Rosenblatt Stadium."
Some of the players competing in the derby include Dan Paolini (Siena College), Matt Gaudet (LSU), Matt Skole (Georgia Tech) and Steven Felix (Troy University).
The 2010 TD AMERITRADE College Home Run Derby will also feature National Baseball Hall of Fame member Mike Schmidt and 2010 National Baseball Hall of Fame inductee Andre Dawson. Schmidt and Dawson will participate in several events throughout the day and will serve as honorary hitting coaches for Derby participants.
