FRESNO, Calif. --- Four members of head baseball coach Mike Batesole's incoming class of freshmen- Tim Borst, Blake Quinn, Brody Russell and Luke Wiechec - have received all-state designations, according to ESPNHS.
Quinn, a 6-foot-4 200-pound right-handed pitcher out of Fresno's Bullard High School, was named first-team all-state multi-purpose after leading the Knights to their first CIF Central Section Division I title since 1999.
Quinn will join the Bulldogs after tossing a 90 strikeouts, recording an earned run average of 1.70 with a record of 10-2 in 74.1 innings pitched, giving up only four extra base hits throughout hi senior season.
Russell (infield) and Wiechec (multi-purpose) both were tabbed to the second-team while Borst (multi-purpose) was part of the all-state small schools honor.
This was Russell's second all-state honor after earning a nod the previous year. In 2011, he also participated in the California North/South Series and the Area Code Games with the Oakland A's. Russell was named Most Outstanding Player by Centennial High School and Kern County for 2011.
For Wiechec, this was also his second year running to receive the honors. He has a legacy of success with the Eagles after being named 2010 Los Altos High School Sophomore Athlete of the year and 2011 CIF Player of the year. In both 2010 and 2011 he participated in the Bay Area World Series and 2011 Rawlings Nor Cal World Series.
Borst earned his first all-state honor after an impressive career at Tahquitz High School. As a sophomore, he was named Mountain Pass League MVP and the ALL-CIF Southern Section First-Team. In 2011, Borst was selected for the All-Mountain Pass League Team, New York Yankees Area Code Invite and New York Yankees Scout Team.
The four are part of a 12-member recruiting class that will join the Bulldogs for the 2013 season, which will be Fresno State's first in the Mountain West Conference after winning seven straight Western Athletic Conference championships.
