Bulldog Wins Gold with USA National Team

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State third baseman Tommy Mendonca earned a gold medal with the USA National baseball team as USA defeated Japan 1-0 in Brno, Czech Republic. The sophomore was invited to play with the national team after the victorious College World Series run. Mendonca left for North Carolina a day after returning from Omaha and a week later left to compete overseas. While with the national team, Mendonca traveled to The Netherlands, Germany, and the Czech Republic. Mendonca went 4-for-4 against Japan in the 12 inning championship game with three singles and a double. He was also hit by a pitch in the title game. The College World Series MVP played in 21 games starting 13 while hitting three doubles, two homeruns, and recording seven RBIs. Mendonca recorded a fielding percentage of .917. Mendonca will return to home this week and take some time off before school starts later next month.
