Former Bulldog Wilson Tosses No-Hitter in AAA
Aug. 9, 2012
By Stephen Trembley INDIANAPOLIS - Former Fresno State baseball player Justin Wilson tossed an eight-inning no-hitter for the Pittsburgh Pirates' AAA-affiliate Indianapolis Indians for a rain-shortened 3-0 victory over Charlotte on Thursday night. Wilson, who pitched for the Bulldogs from 2006-08 and earned the win as the starting pitcher in the 2008 national championship clincher over Georgia, is now 9-5 with a 3.88 earned run average this season for AAA Indianapolis. And while there were reports earlier in the week that he would be moved to the bullpen to prepare for a potential promotion to the major league club, Wilson got the ball from the start and needed just 86 pitchers, including 57 strikes, to post his first professional no-hitter all by himself. Earlier this year, he teamed with two other Indians for a three-man combined no-hitter.
