FRESNO, Calif. - Collegiate Baseball unveiled its annual evaluation of Division I baseball recruiting classes Tuesday, and the Bulldogs claimed a spot in the Top-20 for the second consecutive year. This year they announced Fresno State as the 20th best recruiting class in the nation. The newcomers join a program that has enjoyed unparalleled success, claiming seven straight WAC titles and a national championship in 2008. The new class will have its chance to make its own mark, as the 'Dogs will move to its inaugural season in the Mountain West.
The 'Dogs face a challenging 2013 schedule and will be tested quickly, but head coach Mike Batesole believes his new class has the talent to compete. The learning curve will be their ability to play as a team.
"We have very talented first-year players," said Batesole. "We will do our best to get them playing as a team ASAP. Our schedule is very difficult and will surely let us know where we need to improve early in order to become a good team at the end. Can't wait to coach 'em."
All 13 athletes in this year's recruiting class hail from the state of California, highlighted by four of whom who hauled in ESPNHS All-State honors in June (Borst, Quinn, Russell and Wiechec).
