DURHAM, N.C. -- The Fresno State baseball program earned its second major national recognition for its 2013 recruiting class with Baseball America ranking the Bulldogs' newcomers as the best in the Mountain West and No. 17 in its annual preseason Top 25 classes.

"We have very talented first-year players," head coach Mike Batesole said.. "We will do our best to get them playing as a team ASAP. Our schedule is very difficult and will surely let us know where we need to improve early in order to become a good team at the end."

Among programs in the West, the 'Dogs rated as the fifth-best recruiting class, according to Baseball America.

This also marks the third time in the past seasons that Baseball America ranked one of Batesole's recruiting class in the Top 20 programs nationally.

Vanderbilt became the first team in the 13-year history of Baseball America's annual recruiting class rankings to place No. 1 in back-to-back years.

Four-year transfers were not considered for BA's rankings, except graduate transfers who are immediately eligible.

In September, the Bulldogs' recruiting class was ranked No. 20 by Collegiate Baseball.

All the incoming student-athletes in this year's recruiting class hail from the state of California, highlighted by four of whom who hauled in ESPNHS All-State honors in June (Tim Borst, Blake Quinn, Brody Russell and Luke Wiechec).

Fresno State, which won its seventh straight conference championship in 2012, is entering its first season as a member of the Mountain West and has reached the NCAA Tournament in six of the past seven seasons.

The Bulldogs will host the 2013 MW Tournament at Beiden Field from May 22-26.
