Fresno State vs. Air Force Post-Game Quotes

March 2, 2013

Recap |  Box Score |  Notes

Rodney Terry, Fresno State head coach

(On tone senior's set at beginning)
"The first three and a half minutes those guys were out there, they were really focused all week and wanted to win this game. We knew we had a really, really good opponent coming in. They are a good .500 ball club in this league right now. A team that is probably the best shooting team in our league and we hold those guys to 27%, that is a heck of a job with our defensive effort. But our guys really wanted to win this game tonight and our seniors came out and set a good tone for us in this ball game."

(On the urgency of the team)
"I tell you what, we had the same kind of urgency, to be honest with you, at Colorado State, we played a team in Colorado State, on their home court, and we play those guys toe-to-toe, given the last five minutes of the game over there. And we brought that right back home here and we talked about how important it is to win home games. And that is something that we have to carry over in to next year. Non-conference games, conference games, it is a premium in this league to win home games and protect home court."

(On Brad Ely)
"Brad's been awesome. From the time we discovered Brad over in the Rec Center, when we needed some bodies, Brad has been unbelievable. The energy that he brings everyday, the kind of student-athlete that he is, in terms of he is going to be a very successful guy off the court because he is very serious about his academics. But the effort that he brings everyday, you know what you are going to get from Brad every single day. He never complains and he is a great teammate. You know, we wanted to see if we could get him in the books tonight."

(On Tyler Johnson)
"We talked last night about being a self-made player. Tyler Johnson is making himself into a possible All-Conference guy next year if he continues to work the way he has worked and play the way he has played to this point. We try to learn a lot from the players that we are playing against, and we played a very veteran team, guys that have been through some battles. Lyons is one of the top scorers in this league, self-made guy and a lot of people know Lyons from Texas and he has been a guy that has emerged the last couple of years to be a really good player in this league. He put a lot of time in the gym, not just a lot of time with the coaches, but a lot of time on his own to be that level of a player. Tyler Johnson is working hard. I think it's a lesson for all our guys, if you really want to be good at this then you got to put in the time."

#01 Tyler Johnson

(On shooting 9 of 11 for the night)

"I got to the basket early and got a few shots at the rim to help me settle in. I had a tough night up at Colorado State, foul trouble. I just wanted to come out and be aggressive and my teammates did a great job of executing from the get go and that kind of set me up to get some of the shots that I did."
