Logan, Utah - For the second straight game Kevin Bell came up clutch, and for sixth straight game, the Fresno State men's basketball team was victorious. Bell scored a career-high 25 points Saturday night, helping the Bulldogs snap Utah State's 15-game home winning streak 71-66 in Logan, Utah. During their six-game winning streak, the Bulldogs snapped New Mexico State's 19-game home winning streak, and Saturday night Fresno State put an end to Utah State's in front of a sold out, rowdy arena, which saw Utah State lose at home for the first time this year. With the win, the Bulldogs finished alone in third place in the Western Athletic Conference with a 10-6 record. Fresno State also improved to 22-8 on the year. After the final action Saturday night, the standing and seedings for the WAC tournament have Nevada facing the winner of the Idaho/San Jose State game and Utah State and Hawaii facing each other in the No. 4 and No. 5 seed game. On the top half of the bracket, Fresno State will face No. 6 Boise State and No. 2 New Mexico State will face No. 7 Louisiana Tech. Fresno State will play at 5 p.m. (PST) on Thursday, March 8 against the Broncos, a team they beat at the buzzer just a week earlier. Saturday night, Bell led the way, going 8 for 12 from the field, including two 3-pointers and he added seven assists. Bell topped his previous career-high which he set Thursday against Boise State when he had 17 points. Eddie Miller added 12 points on four 3-pointers and Quinton Hosley had 12 rebounds and nine points.
In the opening half, the Bulldogs were led offensively by Bell, who scored 11 points and added three assists. A balanced attack of Hosley and Miller added six points and Dominic McGuire added five points. Fresno State took an early 12-8 lead over Utah State to open the game, before the Aggies took the lead just before the 12-minute mark. Utah State went up by seven in the first half, 27-20, before Fresno State made a late run. The Bulldogs went on an 8-3 run to close the half, trailing 34-32 at the break. |
