'Dogs Beat NAU to Improve to 3-0 in OT Thrillers

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Cezar Guerrero dropped a deep jump shot that boosted Fresno State past Northern Arizona 71-67 in overtime on Sunday afternoon to close out the 29th Fresno State Classic, presented by The First Tee of Fresno.
"At the end of the day, it's all effort," Fresno State junior forward Alex Davis said. "Effort controls a lot of things. Our coaching staff has been doing a good job and so have our trainers getting us into the ice baths after the game. We take care of our bodies and we're ready to play."
Five times during regulation Marvelle Harris, with a game-high 27 points, pulled Fresno State into a one-point lead or a tie down the stretch. Four times they lasted for just one possession but the fifth forced overtime at 62-62.
Harris broke the tie with a 3-pointer in OT, added a free throw to tie again at 66 and Guerrero's jumper with 34 seconds left finally put the Bulldogs up for good at 69-67 in a game that saw 12 lead changes and seven ties.
Northern Arizona jumped out 15-5 and between Max Jacobsen (21 points), Jordyn Martin (10) and Gaellan Bewernick (10 points, 10 rebounds) had an answer for Harris until the end.
"This is a tough stretch for us, but it's also a tough stretch all around the country," Fresno State head coach Rodney Terry said. "Everybody is playing for three days. As coaches, you put that together with the hope that guys can show themselves that they can do this because it's the same thing we're going to have to do come March. We can put ourselves hopefully in a position for an automatic bid. From a mental standpoint, you know you can do it because you've done it."
