'Dogs Lead MW in Guarding the 3-point arc

Nevada enters the game with the worst 3-point field goal percentage of any MW team in converting just 29.4 percent of their attempts this year.

Bulldogs Set Tone Early in First MW Win
In what was billed as a defensive showdown between two of the top defensive teams in the Mountain West, Fresno State systematically wore down Wyoming 49-36 on Wednesday night at the Save Mart Center. Junior Tyler Johnson returned to rotation after missing last Saturday's game at New Mexico due an ankle injury with a game-high 18 points and six rebounds.

Terry Turns Up the Pressure, Exploits Takeaways
The relentless defensive pressure that Terry expects from his squad has held opponents to just 41.8 percent shooting (335-of-801) from the field and 28.4 percent 3-point shooting (64-of-229). Fresno State has forced an average of 15.3 turnovers per game (244 total) and own a +61 points off turnover margin (261-200), as well as a +52 steal margin (129-77).

Bulldogs Play With Aggressive Defensive Tenacity

The 'Dogs have also held 14 of its 16 opponents under 70 points and limited opponents to under 60 points in nine of their 16 games, including seven of the past 11 contests, as well as two opponents under 40 points.

    Valuing the Basketball
One of Rodney Terry's points of emphasis is the importance of valuing the basketball. Since Terry's arrival, Fresno State has not committed more turnovers than its opponents in 42 of the 49 games, including 36 of those 49 games where the 'Dogs made fewer turnovers than its opponents.

Bulldogs Focused on Executing Down the Stretch
The Bulldogs' losses have come by a combined 79 points (8.7 points per game) and three of the defeats were decided by a single possession (three points or fewer). Fresno State has outscored opponents by an average of 1.4 points per game (60.2 to 58.9), and have played much better offensively in the second half of games by owning a +29 point advantage (518 to 489) in the final 20 minutes of regulation this season.

Efficient Johnson a Steady Hand for the 'Dogs
Since erupting for a then career-best 19 points to key Fresno State's 64-59 road win at Long Beach State, junior Tyler Johnson averaged a team-best 13.9 points per game to go with 4.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists over the next seven games. He posted a career-best 25 points to key the Bulldogs' 89-64 win over Sonoma State before suffering an ankle injury in the opening minutes of Fresno State's MW opener vs. then-No. 16/15 SDSU. He had his 36 consecutive game start streak snapped against New Mexico (1/12/13). He returned to action with game-best 18 points and six rebounds to key a 49-36 win over Wyoming (1/16/13).

'Dogs Defend Ground in Golden State Under Terry
For the second straight season, Fresno State is playing 19 of its regular season games in the state of California. Under Coach Terry, Fresno State is 18-12 when playing in the Golden State, including a 13-9 home record.

    Bulldogs Begin Mountain West Era
Fresno State is in its first season as a member of the Mountain West, which produced four NCAA Tournament teams last year. The MW features three teams ranked in either the AP and/or USA Today/ESPN Coaches polls (No. 15/14 San Diego State, No. 19/21 New Mexico and No. 23 UNLV).

Fresno State Picked to Finish Seventh in MW
Fresno State was projected to finish seventh out of nine Mountain West schools, as selected by a voting panel comprised of Conference media, during preseason voting. Defending MW co-regular season champion San Diego State edged UNLV as the Conference media's preseason favorite to win the MW men's basketball regular-season title in 2012-13.

    Dialing from Long Distance
Fresno State had made a 3-pointer in 554 consecutive games, which ranked third among current Mountain West institutions, before going 0-for-6 in a 49-36 win over Wyoming on Jan. 16, 2013. The other most recent time Fresno State did not convert a 3-pointer in a game had been back on Dec. 2, 1995 versus Princeton in the Coors Light Classic at Selland Arena, which the Tigers won 59-54. The MW's UNLV currently holds the NCAA record for consecutive games with at least one 3-pointer as the Runnin' Rebels are one of only three schools in the nation to make one 3-pointer in every one of their games since the rule was implemented.
