Scouting La Tech
Louisiana Tech enters this week with a 3-16 record and are looking for their first WAC victory. Coming off a 71-57 loss at Hawaii on Saturday night. Kerry Rupp is in his first season as head coach and the Dogs are led in scoring by Kyle Gibson at 15.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. No other La Tech player averages in double figures in scoring.
Against La Tech
Fresno State and La Tech have each won nine games in this series that began in 1984. Fresno State won the earlier meeting this season, 61-44 at Ruston, La., on January 3. That was the WAC opener for both teams.
Eddie Loves the SMC
There's no place like home for Bulldog shooting guard Eddie Miller. The senior sharp-shooter is hitting more than 45% of his three point attempts (45-85) and in WAC home games this season, Miller is averaging 28 points, three rebounds, one assist and one block while shooting .453 from three (19-42). He is coming of a 30-point performance against Boise State last Monday night. Miller joined some elite company with his 30-point game. He's the third WAC player this season to score 30 points in a game, joining Utah State's Jaycee Carroll and New Mexico State's Jahmar Young, who each scored 33 points in games this season. In addition, he joined a select group of former Bulldog scoring greats including Courtney Alexander, Melvin Ely, Maurice Talbot, Lucius Davis and Lonnie Hughey, among others. Hector Hernandez and Miller are the only current Dogs with 30 point games. Hernandez had 31 last season against Cal Poly.
Brandon Stepping Up
One of the biggest highlights to come from the Nevada game was the emergence of freshman Brandon Webster, who set career-highs with 11 points and 10 rebounds, recording his first career double-double. Webster accomplished that in 19 minutes of action. He made four of his six field goal attempts.
