    RENO, Nev. - The No. 9 Fresno State Bulldogs have arrived in the "Biggest Little City in the World" for the 2009 WAC Tournament and will meet No. 8 Hawai'i in first round play tonight (March 10) at 7:30 p.m. in the Lawlor Events Center. Fresno State sports a 10-13 mark all-time in WAC Tournament action and is looking for its first WAC tournament title.

    Seay Earns Second-Team All-WAC Honors
    Junior forward Sylvester Seay earned honors on the second-team All-WAC, as selected by the nine head coaches in the conference. Seay finished the conference schedule tied for third in scoring (17.4 ppg), fourth in blocked shots (1.81 bpg), sixth in rebounding (6.9 rpg) and ninth in 3-point shooting (29-72, 40.3%) against WAC opponents.

    About the Warriors
    Hawai'i finished the regular season with a 13-16 record and 5-11 tally against WAC opponents. The Rainbow Warriors are led by junior guard Roderick Flemings, who was selected to both the All-WAC Newcomer team and second-team All-WAC. Flemings averaged 15.8 ppg against in WAC contests. Hawai'i was picked to finish seventh in the WAC by the coaches and eighth by the media in preseason polling.

     

     

    Against the Warriors --- Series and WAC Tournament History
    Fresno State and Hawai'i are even in the overall series with each school winning 16 of 32 meetings in non-vacated contests. The schools have met twice in previous WAC Tournaments, however, Hawai'i holds the only victory for beating the `Dogs 76-67 in the 2001 Semifinals. Fresno State had to vacate a win over Hawai'i the previous year.

    Against the Warriors --- This Season
    Hawai'i won both meetings this season as the Bulldogs dropped the Feb. 5 meeting on the Islands by a final of 69-43 and Hawai'i edged Fresno, 83-79, on Feb. 19.

  • Feb. 5, 2009 (HONOLULU): Hawai'i 69, Fresno State 43
    Freshman guard Paul George paced the Bulldogs with 13 points and five rebounds as Fresno State couldn't mount a comeback bid as the `Dogs lost 69-43. Freshman guard Mychal Ladd added 11 points while junior forward Sylvester Seay added 10.
  • Feb. 19, 2009 (FRESNO, Calif.): Hawai'i 73, Fresno State 69
    In front of a national television audience on ESPN2, Fresno State and Hawai'i battled to a hard-fought victory for the `Bows, 73-69. Sophomore Bulldog forward and Academic All-District honoree Nedeljko Golubovic scored a career-high 15 points.
