Johnson Produced as One of the Best in the MW
Bulldogs' senior guard Tyler Johnson has steadily improved during his four-year Fresno State career - increasing his scoring average from 4.4 (freshman) to 9.3 (sophomore) to 12.1 (junior) and now 16.4 as a senior. Johnson has scored at least 20 points eleven times his career, with nine of those coming this season in Mountain West play.
Fresno State Heads to Vegas with Momentum
The Fresno State men's basketball team (16-15, 9-9 Mountain West) enters the 2014 Reese's Mountain West Basketball Championship in Las Vegas as the No. 7 seed. The Bulldogs open play on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. versus No. 10 seed Air Force. Fresno State finished the regular season in a tie for fifth place and enters the conference tournament as one of three MW teams to have won eight of its last 10 games (SDSU & New Mexico).
Watson Named MW Freshman of the Year
Fresno State freshman forward/guard Paul Watson was named the Mountain West's Freshman of the Year by the league's head coaches and select media members. During league play, Watson led all MW freshmen in rebounding (4.6 rpg) and finished second among MW freshmen in scoring (8.6 ppg) and blocked shots (12). Watson is the third freshman in school history to earn conference Freshman of the Year, joining previous winners Mike Mitchell (PCAA; 1985-86) and Greg Smith (WAC; 2009-10).
Johnson, Harris Earn All-MW Honors
Fresno State senior guard Tyler Johnson was named second-team All-Mountain West and sophomore guard Marvelle Harris earned Honorable Mention All-MW honors by the league's head coaches and select media members. During league play, Johnson helped fuel Fresno State's charge down the stretch by averaging 18.2 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.0 steals per game while Harris posted 14.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Johnson was previously named honorable mention All-MW last season and this is the first All-MW honor for Harris.
