Fresno State Visits Old Rival UTEP in CBI Opener
In making its postseason appearance since 2007, the Fresno State men's basketball team (17-16) will visit UTEP (23-10) on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. PT in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational. The game will be broadcast on 940 AM ESPN Radio and www.GoBulldogs.com.
About the UTEP Miners
UTEP (University of Texas at El Paso) is 23-10 on the season and 12-4 in Conference-USA play. UTEP is coached by Tim Floyd, one of college basketball's most highly regarded defensive minds, and led C-USA in field goal percentage defense and 3-point field goal percentage defense. UTEP's Julian Washburn leads the Miners offensively with 13.0 ppg.
Against the UTEP Miners
Fresno State and UTEP were longtime conference rivals when both schools were members of the Western Athletic Conference. The 'Dogs and Miners played at least twice a year from 1993-1996 and 1999-2005. Fresno State owns the all-time series lead at 13-12, which does not include two wins by the Bulldogs that were later vacated due to the use of an ineligible student-athlete.
