FRESNO, Calif. - Broderick Newbill has signed a National Letter of Intent to become a part of the Fresno State men's basketball program and will enroll at Fresno State for the 2012-13 season.
Newbill, a 6-foot-5, 185-pound wing out of Kansas City, Missouri, is the fifth high school signee of head coach Rodney Terry's first full recruiting class and seventh addition to the Bulldogs' roster for next season.
Newbill joins incoming freshmen Robert Upsahw, Marvelle Harris, Aaron Anderson and Tanner Giddings as well as transfers Braeden Anderson and Allen Huddleston.
"We're excited about Broderick Newbill joining our program," head coach Rodney Terry said. "He will be a great addition to our incoming class. Broderick brings a lot of versatility at the wing position and has a great knack for scoring the basketball."
Newbill led Hogan Preparatory Academy High School to a Class 3 state championship as a junior and had the Rams in the title game again this past season.
Hogan Prep is the same school that produced the University of Missouri's consensus All-American guard Marcus Denmon.
Newbill averaged 21.5 points, seven rebounds and two assists per game during his senior campaign, when he earned first-team all-state honors and garnered an All-KC Star News distinction. Newbill also played in the 2012 Kansas-Missouri All-Star Game and was a McDonald's All-American nominee.
Nebraska, Mississippi State, Southern Illinois, Tulsa and Missouri State were all actively recruiting the versatile small forward before Newbill decided to become a part of the Fresno State program.
