FRESNO, Calif. - After a long summer and early fall workouts, the time has come for the Fresno State men's basketball team to hit the hardwood for official practices.
"We can win a WAC championship and play in the NCAA Tournament," head coach Steve Cleveland said Friday night. "We are going to take it day-by-day and step-by-step. We will focus on defense and build our confidence for league play."
The team practiced tonight from 5 to 7 p.m. in the North Gym in an animated and competitive session that started with detail-oriented skill development drills, three-on-three play, free-throw scenarios and full-court practice that finished with five-on-five situations.
Before practice, Cleveland was looking for a high level of energy and establish the foundation of execution and technique on both sides of the ball.
"We are going to make a presence on defense and lay the foundation for the start of the season," Cleveland said.
Fresno State will hold its preseason men's basketball "Media Day" on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, starting at 3 p.m. in the Save Mart Center. Earlier that day, head coach Steve Cleveland will participate in the Western Athletic Conference at 1:40 p.m. PT. The WAC will also announce preseason all-league selections and predictions.
The team will compete in its first and only exhibition game of the season on Nov. 4 at 8 p.m. against the crosstown Fresno Pacific Sunbirds in the Save Mart Center.
"We Are Your Team" - On Nov. 13, the Bulldogs will host San Francisco State for the first 2009-10 regular season game. Upper Bowl season tickets can be purchased for $189 at www.gobulldogs.com, by calling (559) 278-DOGS or by visiting the Bulldog Ticket Office south of Bulldog Stadium. All season tickets include a general admission ticket to Fresno State's Dec. 1 game at Selland Arena. All other home games are played at the Save Mart Center.
