Fall Practice Underway for Men's Hoops
Oct. 19, 2008
FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State men's basketball team hit the floor Friday and Saturday for their first official practice sessions of the 2008-09 season in the Save Mart Center.
"We have had two good workouts," head coach Steve Cleveland said. "This is a focused group of players and I am confident we are going to continue to get better."
The Bulldogs return only one starter, senior guard Dwight O'Neil, and will turn to their underclassmen to contribute significant playing time.
Sophomore forward Nedeljko Golubovic played in all 32 games as a freshman while sophomore center Brandon Webster stands tall at 6-10 and led the team with a 60.7 field goal percentage in his freshman campaign.
Junior Jordan Ambers and sophomore Myles Green will compete at guard while Cleveland welcomes eight newcomers (Bryce Cartwright, Paul George, Justin Johnson, Taylor Kelly, Mychal Ladd, Brian Seals, Sylvester Seay, and Brandon Sperling) to action as the squad competes for a Western Athletic Conference championship. Seay played for the Arizona State Sun Devils from 2005-2007 and sat out the 2007-08 season due to NCAA Division I transfer guidelines after transferring to Fresno State.
"These are very coachable young men," Cleveland added. "These have been a positive couple days with great energy."
The Bulldogs were off on Sunday and return to the floor for practice on Monday. The first practice open to the media is set for Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the Save Mart Center.
Bulldog fans have an opportunity to meet the 2008-09 Fresno State men's basketball team on October 29 at 7 p.m. in the Save Mart Center when the team takes the floor for the Red and White scrimmage. The event is free to the public.
