FRESNO, Calif. --- The fun, flair and focus on fundamentals stole the show during the Fresno State men's and women's basketball program's annual Red and White Hoops Night on Tuesday night at the Save Mart Center.

The evening gave the Red Wave a look at the 2012-13 Bulldogs, which are led by first-year head women's coach Raegan Pebley and second-year head men's coach Rodney Terry.

"We're grateful for everybody who came out here to support our men's and women's teams," Pebley said. "I think Fresno State has some of the best fans in the west and we want to keep it that way."

"This night is for the fans, as it is an opportunity for our fans to get a chance to meet our new players and we've got a lot of new faces right now," Terry said. "And of course for the guys, this was a chance to have a little bit of fun."

That fun was evident throughout the evening, with the two squads being introduced to the crowd, going through skill and scrimmage sessions, and competing in 3-point, dunk and four-person shooting contests.

"This is a great opportunity for the student athletes to come out and have a good time, not just as a team, but to be able to interact with the men's team as well as the crowd," Pebley said.

The interaction built to a crescendo especially when co-men's 3-point champions Garrett Johnson and Kevin Foster and co-women's 3-point champions Ta Nitra Byrd and Bree Farley shot after shot from long range, and during the dunk off where Jerry Brown edged Tyler Johnson.

In the men's scrimmage, newcomers Cezar Guerrero and Braeden Anderson both pocketed a pair of baskets to lead the scorers in the up-tempo session that felt like a NBA All-Star game exhibition.

"In the three minute scrimmage, we let them just get up and down the floor for just a little bit and have some fun and then it will be back to work for us in the morning bright and early," Terry said.

Both teams return to their regular practices as they go through final preparations before playing their only exhibition games next week. Both games will pit the Bulldogs against the cross-city Division II Fresno Pacific Sunbirds, with the women taking the floor on Tuesday, Oct. 30 and the men competing on Friday, Nov. 3.

Season tickets are available for both the men and women through The Bulldog Ticket Office and online at www.gobulldogs.com.
