Six Bulldogs Earn Degrees
Nov. 11, 2008
FRESNO, Calif. - As the Fresno State men's basketball team continues to build a solid foundation for success, head coach Steve Cleveland takes pride in the academic achievements during the 2008 spring and summer semesters by his student-athletes. Six Bulldogs completed their degrees and attended graduation ceremonies on campus. Cleveland is equally proud that four more players are on track to graduate by the 2009 spring semester. "We are proud of these young men," said Cleveland. "Getting a college degree for many of them is a life-changing accomplishment. Some of the young men are the first in their families to earn a degree."
The men's basketball student-athletes that graduated from Fresno State and attended the 2008 commencment ceremonies included: Fresno State could have as many as 10 men's basketball players earn their degrees by spring of 2009, which would be a record number for the program for one year. Additionally, another younger player in the program is being honored for academic excellence. Nedeljko Golubovic earned a perfect 4.0 GPA during his freshman year year and recognition as one of Fresno State's academic "Rising Stars" during the Night of Champions gala.
"When we got here, our goal was to do things the right way," said Cleveland. "Obviously we want to win games and championships, but seeing these young men walk across the stage and get a diploma is why we are here. We need to change the culture within our sport and program to make sure these young men are committed to graduating. We have done that and will continue to do so."
