COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Fresno State sophomore guard Marvelle Harris has been named Mountain West Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played during the opening weekend of the college basketball season. It is the first career MW weekly accolade for Harris.
Harris scored a career-high 30 points to lead five Bulldogs in double figures as Fresno State earned a 98-97 overtime road win at preseason Big West Conference favorite UC Irvine.
He went 10-of-15 from the field (.667), including 4-of-8 (.500) from 3-point range, and 6-of-6 from the free throw line, while playing 44 of a possible 45 minutes.
Harris added a career-best five assists, a career-tying seven rebounds, one steal and one blocked shot.
In total, Harris set or tied career-high game marks in 11 statistical categories: points scored, field goals, field goal attempts, 3-pointers made, 3-point attempts, 3-point field goal percentage, free throw percentage, rebounds, assists, blocks and minutes played.
He scored 14 of his 30 points in the second half, including the game-tying 3-pointer with 20 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime at 85-85. He also drained a go-ahead 3-pointer in overtime, which was one of nine lead changes in the extra session.
Fresno State (1-0) finishes up its two-game season-opening road trip when the Bulldogs enter ACC country on Tuesday night to face Pittsburgh (1-0), who is receiving votes both national polls.
