Watson Making Immediate Impact for Bulldogs
Fresno State freshman forward Paul Watson leads the 'Dogs by averaging 16.3 points per game with 10 or more in each of his first three games as a Bulldog. He scored 18 points in both of his first two games as a Bulldogs. In his debut, he hit a pair of 3-pointers, went 6-of-8 at the free throw line and grabbed four rebounds to help power the Bulldogs to their 98-97 overtime win at UC Irvine. In the loss at Pitt, Watson went 8-of-12 from the floor and also pulled down five rebounds. He added 13 points in the Bulldogs' 80-64 win over CSUN at a sold-out Save Mart Center.
'Dogs Handle CSUN at Sold-Out Save Mart Center
Returning to a packed Save Mart Center proved to be the perfect remedy coming off of a tough road loss to the ACC's Pittsburgh. Playing in front of 14,777 fans, the fourth-largest crowd in Save Mart Center history, the Bulldogs led for all 40 minutes on their way to a 80-64 win over Cal State Northridge. Senior Tyler Johnson led all scorers with 18 points and a career-best 12 rebounds - one of six Bulldogs to score 10 or more points.
Huddleston's Buzzer-Beater Hits ESPN, Goes Viral
The game-winner - which was featured as the top story on ESPN's 11 p.m. PT Sportscenter telecast - was the fifth lead change in the final minute of overtime of a game. Later in that Sportscenter broadcast, Huddleston was on live with ESPN's Stan Verrett talking about the buzzer-beater that punctuated the opening day of the season. In the first two days after it happened, the game-winning buzzer-beater has also already been viewed more than 125,000 times on YouTube.
Harris Earns MW Player of the Week Honors for Career Night in OT Win at UCI
Sophomore shooting guard Marvelle Harris scored a career-best 30 points in Fresno State's season-opening 98-97 overtime win at UC Irvine. In total, Harris set or tied career-high marks in nine major statistical categories. He went 10-of-15 from the field, hit four of his eight 3-point attempts and added a perfect 6-for-6 clip at the free throw line. He also had seven rebounds and five assists in 44 minutes of action.
Valuing the Basketball
One of Rodney Terry's points of emphasis is the importance of valuing the basketball. Since Terry's arrival, Fresno State has not committed more turnovers than its opponents in 51 of the 66 games, including 46 of those 66 games where the 'Dogs made fewer turnovers than its opponents.
