Coaching Career: Ludwig is in his fourth year as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach ... a finalist for the Broyles Award, presented annually to the nation?s top assistant coach ? considered one of the brightest assistants in the nation ... presides over an innovative and high-powered offense ? has developed Billy Volek, currently with the Tennessee Titans, and current Bulldog quarterback David Carr ? called the signals of an offense that featured a 4,000-yard passer, two 1,000-yard receivers and an 1,000-yard rusher, the only team ever who can boast that accomplishment ? the Bulldogs offense averaged 40.4 points per game, fourth best in the nation ? tutored Carr, considered perhaps the best quarterback in the nation ? under Ludwig, Carr became just the sixth quarterback in NCAA history to throw for at least 4,000 yards and 40 touchdown passes. He had 4,308 and 42, respectively ? Carr also won a bevy of postseason awards, including Football News Offensive Player of the Year, WAC Offensive Player of the Year, the Johnny Unitas Award and first-team All-WAC honors ? Carr?s career completion percentage is on track to break that of his predecessor, Billy Volek, who Ludwig also coached ? with Ludwig at the helm of the offense, FS has produced three 1,000-yard rushers and three 1,000-yard receivers in the past four years ? in 1999, the Bulldogs were one of the most efficient passing teams in the nation, throwing just three interceptions while accounting for 32 passing touchdowns ? the ?Dogs averaged 33.1 points per game that year, tops in the WAC and 14th in the nation ? Fresno State also averaged 391.8 total yards per game ? Ludwig spent the 1997 season as offensive coordinator at Cal Poly ... guided the Mustangs to the seventh-ranked offense in I-AA football (455 yards per game) ... quarterback Alli Abrew passing efficiency rating of 179.49 led all I-AA quarterbacks ... Cal Poly was one of only two schools to have two 1,000 yard rushers on their team ... served as quarterbacks coach from 1995-96 at Boise State ... in 1995, the Broncos ranked 16th in I-AA in passing offense ... set a school record with just seven interceptions in 322 pass attempts ... in 1996 ? Boise State?s first at the Division I-A level ? BSU quarterback Tony Hilde finished 21st in the nation in total offense (237.83), threw for 2,473 yards, and was responsible for 25 touchdowns ... has also had coaching stints as offensive coordinator at Augustana (S.D.) College (1993-94); defensive backs coach at Utah (1992), when the Utes advanced to the Copper Bowl; wide receivers/quarterbacks coach at Idaho State (1989-91); and wide receivers coach at Portland State (1987-88), advancing to the national championship game both seasons.

Athletics Career: Played junior college football at Snow Junior College (Ephraim, Utah) from 1982-83 ... was a first-team all-conference player and second-team all-region selection at Snow ... transferred to Portland State, where he played from 1984-86, redshirting in 1984.
