    Pre-Game Notes
    • Fresno State captains: 3, 13, 27, 73
    • USC won the toss, elected to receive.

    1st Quarter
Brian Burrell started at quarterback for the Bulldogs, his first start. He was one of six Bulldogs who made their first career start - four were on offense (Da'Mari Scott, LeKendrick Williams, Sean Rubalcava and Burrell) and two were on defense (Maurice Poyadue and Bryan Harper).
    • On a third-and-11, Burrell rushed for 32 yards and Fresno State's first first-down of the game inside of five minutes in the quarter. That was the longest run by a Bulldog quarterback since Tom Brandstater had a 39-yard run on Nov. 30, 2007 at New Mexico State.
    • USC outgained Fresno State 243 to 46 in that first quarter and had 10 more first downs than the Bulldogs did, thanks in part to them being able to convert all third-down attempts in the third quarter.

    2nd Quarter
Brandon Connette entered in at quarterback to start the second quarter. He hit Malique Micenheimer on his first pass for eight yards.
    • Connette's first drive resulted in a touchdown, a one-yard scoring run by Marteze Waller that capped a 13-play, 75-yard drive.
Kyrie Wilson forced a fumble that Curtis Riley recovered at 5:57 of the second quarter. That was Wilson's second career forced fumble.
Donavon Lewis forced a fumble on USC's next drive on a six-yard tackle for a loss. Lewis also recovered the fumble on the play.

    3rd Quarter
    • Fresno State scored on its first drive of the second half, Burrell leading the team down 65 yards in eight plays. Waller scored on a two-yard run for his second rushing TD of the game. This is Waller third career game with two rushing touchdowns.
    • That scoring drive to open the second half saw Waller rush the ball four times for 32 yards.
    • By the end of the third quarter, junior linebacker Kyrie Wilson had matched his career-high in tackles (11) whole cornerback Curtis Riley set a new personal best with eight stops.
