Football Signs 22 to Recruiting Class

    FRESNO, Calif. - Coming off a WAC Championship and EA Sports Las Vegas Bowl appearance, Fresno State football coach Pat Hill and his staff hit the state and gathered an "excellent" recruiting class.

    "This is the best group we've brought in since I've been here," Hill said of his 22 signings, which included 21 high school prospects and one junior college player. "I'm very happy with the group. Our staff worked really hard. These are the kind of players who are going to make us competitive with the type of future schedules we will play and the sights we have set for this program. We want the type of players who are committed to winning championships every year and playing in bowl games every year."

    Among the 22 players are seven linemen, five linebackers, three receivers, two quarterbacks, two defensive backs, one running back, one tight end and a punter.

    (pronounced: There-ee-an Fon-ten-oh) First-team All-Bay League and was the Most Outstanding Player in the Bay League ...     Selected the Sacramento Bee Offensive Player of the Year after throwing for a Sac-Joaquin Section record 3,722 yards and 41 touchdowns last season ... ran for 637 yards and 10 touchdowns ... was selected the MVP of the Golden Empire League ... over a two-year career, he led Colfax to a 20-3 record and threw for 5,289 yards and 59 touchdowns.

    First-team All-Central League and was the Central League Defensive Player of the Year ...     Honorable Mention All-American by the J.C. Grid-wire ... a good athlete ... was selected first-team All-Mission Conference as a punter and second-team All-Mission Conference as a wide receiver ... led the conference in average yards per punt with 41.8 ... had 12 punts inside the 20 and 11 of 50 or more yards ... last season had 55 punts for 2,299 yards with a long punt of 72 ... had 32 receptions for 540 yards and three touchdowns with a long of 65 yards.

    Rodney Woods, 5-9, 175, DB, Lancaster, Calif. (Littlerock)
    An excellent athlete who is expected to find a home in the Bulldog secondary ... as a running back he rushed for 1,510 yards and 17 touchdowns ... had 318 yards against Antelope Valley High School ... selected to the All-CIF Division III team.
