FRESNO, Calif. - Wednesday is National Signing Day and Fresno State head football coach Tim DeRuyter will unveil his third signing class and the newest Bulldogs to the Red Wave all throughout the day.
GoBulldogs.com will feature live updates beginning in the early morning, announcing the signees as the National Letters of Intent come in and are approved by the compliance office. In addition to the live updates, Bulldog fans will be able to follow along with all the action on the internet and on the radio with 940 AM ESPN Radio, the home of the Bulldogs, providing National Signing Day coverage throughout the day.
DeRuyter will officially announce his signing class at an 11 a.m. press conference, which fans can watch for free over the Mountain West Network. 940 AM ESPN Radio is also broadcasting the introductory press conference live.
Then from 1-2 p.m., Christian Lukens and former Bulldog alum Cameron Worrell will sit down with DeRuyter, offensive coordinator Dave Schramm and defensive coordinator Nick Toth to give the Valley an in-depth look at the class through the eyes of the coaches on their hour-long live show on 940 AM ESPN Radio.
Coming off back-to-back Mountain West championships, DeRuyter and his staff are really pleased with how this recruiting class came together.
"The reception we've gotten from high school players in the Valley, throughout California and really all over the country has been unprecedented for our staff," DeRuyter said. "We've had a couple years now to put a product on the field that has won two championships and 20 games and I think that our recruits are seeing an exciting product, great support from our Red Wave and realize that the future is extremely bright. That is reflective in the type of student-athletes we are seeing right now."
Along with the success on the field, the coaching staff that has remained almost completely intact over the past three years has been able to form bonds with high school coaches, something DeRuyter feels is key to recruiting.
"When you've got a consistent staff going through the same high schools, we've got relationships with those coaches and those guys are identifying guys that they think will be great fits for us," DeRuyter said. "The more consistency you can have on staff especially with guys who develop great relationships, the better recruit you can find and you know more about them. You know their strengths and know their flaws."
The signing day activities are set to start bright and early Wednesday morning, so stay tuned to GoBulldgos.com and on Twitter at @FresnoStateFB for all the happenings.
