DALLAS, Texas - Darryl Rogers, who directed the Fresno State football team for seven seasons, is one of five coaches on the 2013 Football Bowl Subdivision Ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, the National Football Foundation (NFF) announced Tuesday.

Rogers, who also played for the Bulldogs in the 1950s, came to Fresno State in 1966 after coaching one season at Cal State-Hayward. In his seven seasons (1966-72) coaching the Bulldogs, Rodgers guided Fresno State to six winning seasons, a 43-32-1 record, the 1968 California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship and two bowl games - the 1968 Camellia Bowl and the 1971 Mercy Bowl II.

Rogers went on to coach at San Jose State (1973-75), Michigan State (1976-79) and Arizona State (1980-84) after his time in the San Joaquin Valley. In his 20 seasons as a collegiate coach, he compiled a 126-77-7 record.

He was a conference Coach of the Year at San Jose State and Michigan State and The Sporting News' National Coach of the Year in 1978 when the Spartans won the Big Ten title under his direction.

The NFF named 77 players and five coaches to the 2013 ballot. The other four coaches joining Rogers on the ballot are Jim Carlen (West Virginia, Texas Tech & South Carolina), Wayne Hardin (Navy & Temple), Bill McCartney (Colorado) and Billy Jack Murphy (Memphis).

To be eligible for the ballot, coaches must have coached a minimum of 10 years and 100 games as a head coach; won at least 60 percent of their games; and be retired from coaching for at least three years. If a coach is retired and over the age of 70, there is no waiting period. If he is over the age of 75, he is eligible as an active coach. In both cases, the candidate's post-football record as a citizen may also be weighed.

The FBS Hall of Fame Class will be announced live in New York City during a noon press conference on May 7 from the NASDAQ OMX Market Site and inducted at the 56th NFF Annual Awards Dinner Dec. 10, 2013 at the landmark Waldorf=Astoria Hotel in New York City.
