FRESNO, Calif. - The Bulldog Express, Fresno State head football coach Tim DeRuyter's week-long coaches caravan sponsored by Paul Evert's RV Country and 940 AM ESPN Radio, hit the ground Monday with its first of several stops throughout the San Joaquin Valley this week.

The Bulldog Express headed down to Visalia on Monday, stopping for a lunch meet and greet at The Planing Mill Artisan Pizzeria in downtown.

"Today was fantastic, we've always had great support from Visalia," DeRuyter said. "I talked to a bunch of season ticket holders, they are excited about last year, but they haven't seen anything yet. We're going to be faster and better this year."

DeRuyter conversed with the crowd on Monday at The Planing Mill, talking about next year's team and answering questions.

"For me personally to get a chance to sit down and have lunch and meet a bunch of people that have been supporting Bulldog football for a number of years has been a lot of fun," DeRuyter said. "Rolling down the 99 and having people drive by and see the Bulldog Express going down, it's fun to see the expression on their faces."

The Planing Mill also had a special pizza available on Monday, one of DeRuyter's picking. His special pizza for the day was one with tomato, basil, prosciutto and mushrooms.

"The pizza we had at The Planing Mill was awesome," DeRuyter said. "I was asked me to come up with a pizza last week. I like margarita pizza with tomato and basil and I said throw some prosciutto and mushrooms on there and it was awesome."

After the meet and greet, the Bulldog Express stopped by the Visalia Nissan to meet with the Groppetti Automotive group.

Fresno State, which has been ranked No. 22 in the preseason polls put out by Athlon Sports and Phil Steele, began its summer workout and conditioning period on Monday. DeRuyter had an extra step in his gear knowing that the players are back in town and preparing for next season. He said it got him pumped up knowing that the start of the 2013 season is right around the corner.

On Tuesday, the Bulldog Express will visit the Lemoore Naval Air Station in the morning before heading to Paso Robles for an afternoon meet and greet at the Firestone Walker Taproom from 4-6 p.m.
