LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Sports Commission announced the 2013 Watch List for the Paul Hornung Award on Friday and Fresno State senior Isaiah Burse was one of 44 players named to the list.
The Paul Hornung Award, now in its fourth season, is given annually to the most versatile player in major college football by the Louisville Sports Commission and football legend and Louisville native Paul Hornung. Burse, a wide receiver who also returns punts and kickoffs, was on the watch list last season as well.
The 2013 Watch List was compiled by a panel of college football experts based on a combination of 2012 statistics, career performance and expectations heading into the 2013 season. Profiles of each player and information about the Award can be found at www.paulhornungaward.com.
A native Modesto, Calif., Burse enters his senior year needing just 15 more kickoff returns to tie the NCAA career record of 141 held by Tyron Carrier from Houston (2008-11).
Burse has handled the kickoff return duties for all three seasons he has been in the Bulldog program and has averaged 22.5 yards off 126 returns.
Additionally, Burse has also spent the first part of the 2012 season as Fresno State's punt returner. In that time, he returned eight punts for an average of 10.2 yards with a long of 29 against Colorado that gave the 'Dogs the ball inside the Buff 20-yard line.
Burse is figured once again this coming 2013 season to be in the mix to handle not only the kickoff return duties, but the punt return duties as well.
In addition to his versatility as a return man, Burse has caught 110 passes in his career for 1,477 yards and nine touchdowns. He holds the unique distinction of having rushed for a touchdown, thrown for a TD and caught a touchdown throughout the course of his career.
