NEW YORK - Senior tight end Marcel Jensen was announced on Tuesday to the John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List, Jensen's second preseason recognition this summer.
The John Mackey Award is given annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end. Since the awards inception in 2000, 12 of the 13 previous winners went on to play in the NFL. The 2013 recipient will be selected by vote by the John Mackey Award Selection Committee and will be announced live on Dec. 12 at the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards.
Jensen is one of 37 players to be named to this year's watch list and is one of three student-athletes from the Mountain West to be recognized.
Jensen enters his senior campaign coming off his most productive season yet as a Bulldog. The Fairfield, Calif. native started eight games in 2012 and appeared in all 13 games. Jensen hauled in 20 passes for 339 yards along with four touchdown receptions, averaging a team-best 17.0 yards per catch.
Following Jensen's junior season he garnered 2012 honorable mention All-Mountain West honors and was later named to the 2013 College Football Performance Awards Tight End Watch List.
