Carr Named to CFPA Watch List

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Fresno State junior quarterback Derek Carr has been named as one of 33 quarterbacks on the 2012 College Football Performance Awards Quarterback Trophy watch list. Carr and Wyoming quarterback Brett Smith were the only two quarterbacks from the Mountain West to appear on the list. A 6-3, 210-pound junior out of Bakersfield, Calif., Carr returns for his second season as Fresno State's starting quarterback. In his first year under center Carr threw for 3,544 yards, which is the third-most in Fresno State history and the most ever by a sophomore. That passing yardage ranked No. 15 nationally. Carr was a second-team All-WAC selection in 2011 when he threw for 26 touchdowns against nine interceptions and completed 62.6 percent of his passes. He had four 300-yard passing games, including a career-high 391 yards with three touchdowns at New Mexico State. The CFPA is the largest awards organization in Division I college football and they have the most scientifically rigorous conferment's. The CFPA Quarterback Trophy winner will be announced on Jan. 9, 2013.
