Eligibility for the Rotary Lombardi Award is limited to down linemen, end-to-end, either on offense or defense, who set up no farther than 10 yards to the left or right of the ball, or linebackers who set up no farther than five yards deep from the line of scrimmage. The candidates earned a place on the preliminary watch list by earning All-American honors, being named to their respective all-conference teams or receiving 2013 pre-season honors.
The 44th Rotary Lombardi Award will be held on December 11, 2013 at the Wortham Center in Houston, Texas.
This is the second preseason watch list for a national award that Wentworth has been named to and the first for Davison.
Wentworth, a senior who has started in 28 consecutive games for the 'Dogs, is also on the watch list for the 2013 Outland Trophy that honors the best interior lineman in college football. Being one of 60 active players in the FBS that has made 30 or more career starts, Wentworth earned first-team All-Mountain West accolades in 2012 after helping lead the Bulldog offense that ranked 12th nationally in passing, 16th in total offense and 17th in scoring.
Davison, a junior who was also a first-team All-MW selection in 2012, was a key cog in the middle of Fresno State's 3-4 defense that led the conference and ranked ninth nationally in sacks. From his nose guard position, Davison had 7.0 tackles for a loss, three sacks and his 43 total tackles were the most by any Bulldog defensive lineman. He also tied for second in the MW with three fumble recoveries, one of which was for a touchdown at Nevada.
