FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State senior wide receiver Josh Harper was named Tuesday by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club (TQC) Foundation, Inc., to the 2014 Biletnikoff Award preseason watch list.
The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the outstanding receiver in college football. The award recipient is selected by the highly distinguished Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee, a group 221 prominent college football journalists, commentators and former receivers.
"Given the significant number of excellent college receivers playing this season, the race for the 2014 Biletnikoff Award will be the most entertaining and wide-open in many years," TQC Foundation Chairman Charles Hopkins said.
Harper is joined on the list by Mountain West counterparts Devante Davis of UNLV, Rashard Higgins of Colorado State, Matt Miller of Boise State, Ezell Ruffin of San Diego State, Dominic Rufran of Wyoming, Richy Turner of Nevada and Tyler Winston of San Jose State.
For Harper, a Stockton, Calif. native, he enters his senior year coming off a 1,000-yard receiving season. In 2013, Harper caught 79 passes for 1,011 yards and 13 touchdowns. He was a second-team All-Mountain West selection after ranking in a tie for eighth in the FBS in touchdown catches last year.
He has caught 138 passes for 1,841 yards and 22 touchdowns in 27 career games. Those 22 TD catches rank in a tie for the fourth-most nationally among active players. Harper ranks sixth in the Fresno State record book for career touchdown receptions, is tied for 10th in catches and is on the verge of becoming the 10th receiver in school history to accumulate over 2,000 yards receiving in a career.
Harper was also named last week as one of 42 players on the College Football Performance Awards Wide Receiver Trophy watch list.
The TQC will announce the ten Biletnikoff Award semifinalists on Nov. 17, 2014, following the vote by the 221 members of the Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee. Likewise, the three finalists will be declared, following another vote, on Nov. 24, 2014.
The 2014 Biletnikoff Award winner will be presented live on Dec. 11, 2014, on The Home Depot College Football Awards Show to be broadcast from 7-9 p.m. on ESPN. College and Pro Football Hall of Famer Fred Biletnikoff will announce the 2014 winner on the show.
