FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State head coach Pat Hill got his first look at 31 newcomers today when the newest Bulldogs took the practice field for the first time.

The 29 freshmen and two transfers took to the Fresno State Valley Grower's Practice Facility for two practice sessions. The rookies will continue with two-a-day practices until the veteran players report on Aug. 10.

Fresno State's media day is scheduled for Aug. 11 at 10:30 a.m. at Bulldog Stadium.

"We have a good looking group of young players," Hill said after the morning session. "This is the best group of freshman since I've been here. We felt all along that there are some guys in this class who can step up and play right away and from what I saw today, I think that's still possible. They will have to learn a lot early and get a good grasp of what we are doing, but this class has a lot of athletic ability and size."

The Bulldogs are coming off an 8-5 record, a share of the WAC championship and appearance in the EA Sports Las Vegas Bowl.

The first practice session for the entire squad will be Saturday, Aug. 12, at 9 a.m.
