This is Carr's fourth career MW weekly accolade, while it is the first for McGuire and it comes after the freshman's first career game.
Carr set new MW and school records for attempts (73) and completions (52) in a game as the Bulldogs rallied past Rutgers 52-51 in overtime. His 52 completions were 10 more than the previous MW record, which Carr set last season against San Diego State, and marked the fourth-most completions in a single game by an FBS quarterback in the last 10 seasons.
He threw for 456 yards and finished with a MW single-game record 77 total offense plays, eclipsing the previous mark of 75 (BYU's Jon Beck vs. UNLV in 2004). In the game he completed 71.2 percent of his passes and threw five touchdowns with just one interception, which came against the Rutgers defense that ranked fourth nationally in scoring defense and 10th in total defense last season.
Carr's passing yardage, completions and total offensive marks were the highest produced by any FBS player during the opening weekend of the 2013 season.
McGuire, on his very first collegiate field goal attempt that came with the team down three points and 3:48 left in the game, connected on a 47-yard field goal to tie the game up for the Bulldogs. With the help of McGuire's clutch kick, Fresno State went on to defeat Rutgers 52-51 in overtime. McGuire also hit all seven of his PAT attempts in the game.
Fresno State remains at home this week to host Cal Poly on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. in the annual Ag Fest game.
