Carr Named A Manning Award Star of the Week
Sep 3, 2013
NEW ORLEANS - Fresno State senior Derek Carr has received more national attention for his performance in the Bulldogs' season-opening victory over Rutgers, as the Manning Award, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, named him one of eight quarterbacks as its "Start of the Week."
College football fans can now go to the Allstate Sugar Bowl Facebook page to vote for what they think was the best performance from this past weekend. When voting closes on Friday at 11 a.m. (Central), the top vote-getter will be announced as the Manning Award Player of the Week.
The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates' bowl performances in its balloting.
Carr was also named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week and the Phillips 66 MW Athlete of the Week by CBS Sports Network for his performance.
Carr threw for 456 yards with five touchdowns against one interception, completing 52-of-73 passes in the 52-51 overtime win over a Rutgers team that ranked fourth nationally in 2012 in scoring defense.
