Carr has led the Bulldogs into the national rankings at No. 25 for the first time since 2008 and got the 'Dogs off to a 3-0 start with his tremendous play on the field.
"I think his value to our team is as high as anybody in the country in their value to their team," head coach Tim DeRuyter said. "The guy's a winner, it doesn't matter what the score is he's going to find a way to win the football game. He's got a lot of talent, but he's got a lot more heart than that.
"I think Derek is the kind of guy that can handle [a Heisman campaign] and it won't affect him at all. I'm usually not an individualistic guy because it is always about the team, but in Derek that is his core [being a team player].
"I think it does nothing but being great light on our football program, on our school and on the Valley."
After collecting All-America accolades and being named the 2012 Mountain West Player of the Year, Carr is off to a hot start this season. In three games he is throwing for 373.3 yards per game and has 12 touchdown passes against one interception. His 1,121 passing yards through three games is 259 more passing yards than any of the five previous Heisman-winning quarterbacks had in their first three games the year they won college football's award that goes to America's top collegiate football player.
"To me, I'm all for it because it's great for our program, it's great for recruiting and all that stuff so if it can bring great recruits here and help out this program I'm all for it," Carr said of launching the campaign. "No one puts more pressure on me than myself. The thing that keeps me grounded through all this is first and foremost my faith. I know who I am as a person, I don't get caught up in the Heisman, I don't get caught up in the BCS bowls, I don't get caught up in that stuff.
"All I know is whenever we have practice, I need to get better and continue to work hard."
Carr currently has 145 consecutive passes without throwing an interception and has a career touchdown-to-interception ratio of 75-to-17.
He leads all active FBS quarterbacks by throwing for a touchdown in 23 consecutive games and he is tied with Georgia's Aaron Murray for the second-most games (14) throwing three or more TDs.
The website features highlight videos, photos, stats, story lines, records and also a look into his personal life, as the team captain is the ideal role model any coach would want to represent his team.
Social media sites on Twitter (@DC4Heisman) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/DC4Heisman) were also launched with the Derek Carr for Heisman campaign.
