FRESNO, Calif. - CBSSports.com has named Fresno State senior safety Phillip Thomas to its Midseason All-America first-team, the website announced Monday.
This is the second midseason All-America team Thomas has been named to, as last week Phil Steele selected Thomas on his midseason All-America second-team.
Thomas and Nevada running back Stefphon Jefferson were the two players from the Mountain West named to CBS Sports' first-team.
A 6-1, 215-poound senior out of Bakersfield, Calif., Thomas currently leads the nation with six interceptions this year. He has returned his six picks for 78 yards and two touchdowns, which ties for the national lead in interceptions returned for a touchdown.
Thomas is second on the team with 48 tackles this season and he has posted 5.0 tackles for a loss and two sacks. Additionally, Thomas has forced two fumbles this year, recovered one and has a pair of pass breakups.
Fresno State (4-3, 2-0 MW) returns home this weekend to host Wyoming (1-5, 0-2) at 7:30 p.m. from Bulldog Stadium. Special $18 tickets are available for the game up until Friday at 6 p.m. through the Fresno State ticket office.
