CLEVELAND, Ohio - Fresno State senior Isaiah Burse was named as a fourth-team midseason All-American by Phil Steele on Thursday as a punt returner.
Burse currently ranks No. 5 nationally with an average of 16.9 yards on 11 punt returns. His two punt returns for touchdowns are tied for the national lead with three other players.
Both of his punt returns for touchdowns came in the win over Cal Poly on Sept. 7. He tied the school and Mountain West records by returning two punts for scores in that game.
In addition to starring as a punt returner, Burse has also caught 34 passes for 386 yards and two touchdowns this season. He is averaging 11.4 yards per catch and 77.2 receiving yards per game. He has two 100-yard receiving games, including his 10-catch, 148-yard performance in the win over Boise State.
Burse is on the Paul Hornung Award Watch List and the CFPA All-Purpose Trophy Watch List.
He currently ranks third in school history with 5,096 all-purpose yards, a figure that is the fourth-highest of any active bowl subdivision player. Burse needs 733 yards to break Bernard Berrian's school record for all-purpose yardage in a career.
