Fresno State football senior Phillip Thomas has been named the Sysco Student-Athlete of the Week.

Senior safety Phillip Thomas increased his nation's-leading interception total to seven on the year when he picked off a pass and returned it 20 yards for a touchdown in the 42-14 win over Wyoming. His seven picks on the season are two more than any other player in the nation has and he has tied the Mountain West single-season record for picks in a year. Thomas has returned three of his seven picks for touchdowns, which set a new school record and also tied the MW record. In the win over Wyoming, Thomas also had four tackles, one tackle for a loss, forced a fumble and had two pass breakups. He led the defense that held Wyoming to just 74 yards in the first half, including only 11 in the second quarter, as Fresno State jumped out to a 35-0 halftime lead. Wyoming was 0-for-10 in the first half on third downs and Thomas had a pass breakup, forced fumble and a tackle on three of those 10 third down stops in the first half. Wyoming finished the game going 2-for-18 on third downs and Thomas and the Bulldog defense limited Wyoming to just 73 yards rushing.
