CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Fresno State redshirt freshman wide receiver Davante Adams was named to the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) 2012 National Freshman Performer of the Year Watch List that was released Wednesday.
Adams, a 6-2, 200-pound product out of Palo Alto, Calif., is one of 28 freshmen named on the list and one of three Mountain West players. CFPA's watch list serves as a rough guide, highlighting freshmen whose performances merit recognition.
The Bulldog freshman leads the Mountain West in receptions (56), receptions per game (7.0), receiving yards (616), yards per game (77.0) and touchdown catches (seven). His 56 total receptions are tied for the ninth-most in the nation and his seven TDs have him in a tie for 13th nationally.
When comparing him to all freshmen in the FBS, Adams ranks fourth in total receiving yards and first in touchdown receptions.
His season started off with a bang, as he became the first freshman in school history to have a 100-yard receiving day in his very first career game. He caught seven passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns in the season-opening win over Weber State.
Adams has also pulled off a feat seen only once before by a Bulldog receiver. He has two games this year with 10 or more catches (12 at No. 4 Oregon, 11 vs. Wyoming), which has only been accomplished one other time in the same season and that was by Rodney Wright in 2001. Wright is Fresno State's all-time leader in career receptions.
