Football Expects Sellout for Tulsa Game
Oct. 28, 2000
FRESNO, Calif. - For the third consecutive home game, Fresno State is expecting a sellout according to athletics ticket manager Scott Wetherbee. The Bulldogs have never had three consecutive sellouts at Bulldog Stadium's present capacity of 41,031.
As of 4 p.m. this afternoon, the athletics ticket office reported that 39,861 tickets have been sold for Saturday's game against Tulsa. The Bulldogs, who own the nation's third-longest home winning streak of 12 games, are looking for their third consecutive sellout. Only Florida State (33 games) and Oregon (19 games) have longer home winning streaks.
Fresno State is averaging 41,707 fans for its first two home games, above Bulldog Stadium's capacity of 41,031. Fresno State ranks 19th in the NCAA and second on the West Coast in percentage of stadium capacity filled at 101.65 percent. This will mark just the second time in history that Fresno State will have had had three consecutive games of more than 40,000 fans.
In addition, Wetherbee announced that over 39,000 tickets have been sold for the Nov. 4 game vs. Hawai'i. At present count, Fresno State would need 35,267 fans for the season finale against SMU on Nov. 18 to break the school record for single season attendance average of 39,536 set in 1993. That season, the Bulldogs had three sellouts of 41,031 and one other game of over 40,000 fans. Last season, the Bulldogs averaged 37,231 fans per game, the fourth-best single season average in history, but did not have a game of more than 40,000.
Fresno State currently ranks above perennial powers Penn State (21st), Notre Dame (23rd), Florida State (27th) and Alabama (29th). Following is a breakdown of where the Bulldogs rate regionally and in the WAC in percent of stadium capacity filled:
