NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr has been named the Walter Camp Foundation National Offensive Player of the Week, presented by Generation UCAN, on Sunday after yet another record-setting night in a Bulldog victory.
This is the second time in Carr's career he has earned the Walter Camp national honor, the first time coming back in his junior season of 2012.
In leading Fresno State to the 41-23 win over Nevada, Fresno State's eighth-straight victory to open the season, Carr was 39-of-55 passing for 487 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. He also added one rushing touchdown, as he was responsible for 4-of-5 Fresno State touchdowns in the Bulldogs' 41-23 victory.
Carr completed eight passes of over 20 yards with a long of 57 and this is his fifth 400-yard passing game this season and eighth of his career, which is the most of any active FBS quarterback.
In the process he became Fresno State's all-time leading passer in the game and he now has 10,821 career passing yards.
Entering the fourth quarter it was a one score game. Carr was 5-for-6 passing in the fourth for 95 yards and a touchdown, helping the Bulldogs outscore Nevada 17-7 in the last 15 minutes of the game.
Carr has now thrown 183 consecutive passes without an interception and has 28 TD passes against just four interceptions this season.
He also tied another Mountain West record by throwing for a TD pass in 21-straight games since the Bulldogs joined the league in 2012. Overall, he has now thrown for a TD in 28 consecutive games, which is the longest active streak in the FBS.
This is the 10th year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Football Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season. Recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Foundation.
