FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State junior quarterback Derek Carr has been selected to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District 8 First-Team, as selected and announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.
Carr becomes the sixth Bulldog to earn Academic All-District accolades in the last three years and he becomes eligible for the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
A 6-3, 210-pounder out of Bakersfield, Calif., Carr ranks second nationally in passing yards with 3,070 and is tied for second in the FBS with 30 touchdown passes.
Not only has Carr produced on the field, but in the classroom as well. A recreation administration and leisure services management major, Carr was selected to the Academic All-WAC team as a sophomore in 2011 to go along with the honor he received Thursday.
The Bulldog quarterback has led Fresno State to a 7-3 record this year and 5-1 mark in Mountain West play to have the 'Dogs in a tie for first-place in the league standings.
Carr has thrown three or more touchdowns in 6-of-10 games this season and passed for over 300 yards four times. He is one of five players in the FBS this season to have two or more games with at least 400 pass yards and four passing touchdowns.
