FRESNO, Calif. - - A pair of Bulldogs were honored by the Western Athletic Conference on Monday being named Verizon Wireless WAC players of the week. Safety Lorne Bell was named defensive player of the week, while kicker Kevin Goessling was named special teams player of the week.

Bell, a junior from Simi Valley, Calif. (Simi Valley HS), had nine tackles (including one for a loss) and led the Bulldog defense that shut out Idaho in the first half. Idaho came into the game with one of the nation's top passing offenses and was held to just 29 yards in the first half and no third down conversions in five attempts. The 21 points allowed in the game were the fewest for Idaho this season.

Goessling, a sophomore from Placentia, Calif. (Servite HS), hit a 52-yard field goal late in the first quarter against Idaho to give the Bulldogs a 17-0 lead. It was the second longest of his career and second longest in the WAC this season. He has made 11 field goals in a row (including two of 50 yards or better), tying the school record, and with his four extra points against Idaho, he has now made all 40 PATs on the year.

Hawai'i running back Leon Wright-Jackson was named the offensive player of the wekk.

Also nominated on defense: junior safety Jeron Johnson, Boise State; junior defensive back Mana Silva, Hawai'i; and junior defensive end Dontay Moch, Nevada.
