About New Mexico State
In a season that started with a lot of promise and a 3-2 record, the Aggies have dropped the last four games -- three at home -- and enter the Fresno State game with a 3-6 record. One of the most explosive teams in the nation, the Aggie "Air Raid" passing attack has been impressive. Quarterback Chase Holbrook leads the WAC in passing yards (2,520) and touchdowns (20). The Aggies have the nation's ninth-best passing attack. Receiver Chris Williams is a threat to score everytime he touches the ball. He has 1,009 yards this season and leads the WAC with seven touchdown receptions. He had 221 yards last weekend against Hawaii.
Against New Mexico State
Fresno State has never lost to the Aggies, winning all 14 games in the series that began in 1972. The Dogs are 6-0 at home against New Mexico State. The last two games have been close, with Fresno State winning by a combined total of 12 points. Fresno State edged New Mexico State 23-18 in the last meeting in Bulldog Stadium.
Three Dogs Earn Academic Honors
Three Fresno State players were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 team released Thursday. Junior safety Moses Harris was selected for the second straight year, while sophomores Vince Pascoe and Andrew Jackson were both selected in their first year of eligibility. All three student-athletes are now eligible for Academic All-America consideration. The CoSIDA Academic All-America team will be selected by a committee comprised of Sports Information Director's from across the nation. District 8 includes FBS and FCS schools in the western United States, including most WAC schools, all of the Pac 10 schools, and schools from the Mountain West and Big Sky Conferences. Fresno State had the second-highest number of players selected. Utah and BYU each had four players on the Academic All-District 8 team while Boise State and Fresno State each had three. The Pac 10 only had three total players selected, one each from Washington State, Oregon and Arizona State.
ESPN Loves the Dogs
Fresno State will make its 60th national television appearance this decade when the Dogs play at San Jose State on ESPN2 next Friday. ESPN/ABC televised eight consecutive Fresno State games on its network, the last four of the 2007 season and the first four games of the 2008 season. Fresno State is scheduled for seven nationally televised games on the ESPN networks in 2008, including three of the final four this month. In all, Fresno State will have 12 of 16 games on the ESPN's Family of Networks by the end of the regular season. This week's game vs. New Mexico State is the only game this season that will not be available on television in the Fresno market.
Senior Tackle Set for Friday
Fresno State's 13 seniors will be honored at this weekend's game, their final home game. In addition, the Bulldogs will hold their "Senior tackle" on Friday night after their walk through in Bulldog Stadium. In what has become a tradition, the team will honor the seniors in a ceremony and allow them to take one last hit in a tackling dummy. Each of the seniors will speak to the team before running through a gauntlet of teammates and hit the dummy. The ceremony is open to the public and will be at approximately 6:30 p.m.
