LAS VEGAS - The MAACO Bowl Las Vegas announced Derek Carr as this week's Mountain West Player of the Week on Wednesday. Carr received a record 3,095 votes, which was over 2,000 more votes than the previous high for any one player since polling began in 2011.
Carr completed 28-of-32 pass attempts for 454 yards and four touchdowns in leading the Bulldogs to a 48-15 rout of Air Force and Fresno State's first conference championship since 1999 on Saturday.
The Bakersfield, Calif., native completed his first nine passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns in the first 21 minutes of the game. Overall, Carr completed eight passes of over 20 yards and averaged 16.1 yards per completion while extending his streak of consecutive pass attempts without an interception to 126.
Carr's .875 completion percentage set a new school record while ranking as the best single-game performance by a junior in MW history (third overall).
This is third MAACO Bowl Las Vegas award of the season for Carr, as he was voted the winner in week five and six. The junior quarterback's award comes in the 13th and final week of voting. It is the fifth time in the 13 week period that a player from Fresno State has won the award, which leads all MW schools.
Robbie Rouse collected the award following his performance at Nevada and Rashad Evans took the honor after defeating Wyoming in week eight. The two both held the record number of votes in the week of their awards.
