Viva Las Vegas!

Dec. 2, 1999

The Fresno State Bulldogs will be making their first bowl appearance in six years and the Red Wave couldn't be more proud.

Bulldog fans and alumni have enjoyed an undefeated home season that culminated with a 63-12 rout of old rival San Jose State. That victory earned Fresno State a share of the Western Athletic Conference championship and an invitation to the EA Sports Las Vegas Bowl Dec. 18. It has been a long time coming for Bulldog fans, who sat through five consecutive non-winning seasons. Now that the Bulldogs have returned to the nation's elite in college football, the Red Wave is prepared to sweep over the strip of Las Vegas. And there's not a better entertainment city than Las Vegas for a team to go bowling. Las Vegas is a world-renowned event and resort destination that attracts more than 30 million visitors each year.

"There are bowls with more tradition or prestige, but there's not a better setting or environment for sports fans than Las Vegas," said Fresno State head coach Pat Hill. "Our fans can enjoy a great bowl game against a heck of a football team in Utah, plus have all of the other entertainment possibilities that Las Vegas offers. It's a great opportunity to showcase our fans and football program, plus reward both for an outstanding season."

In addition to the EA Sports Las Vegas Bowl, which will be played Dec. 18 at 3 p.m., there are many bowl week activities planned.

The best part about the Las Vegas experience is that it offers something for every household budget. In addition to the relatively inexpensive bowl ticket of $45, there are rooms available for as low as $39 per night and buffet dinners for under $4. Las Vegas is an easy drive from anywhere in the Valley. Las Vegas offers gambling, world famous shows, the Las Vegas Showdown Basketball Classic and lots of entertainment for the entire family.

"We are so excited about going to Las Vegas," said Bulldog fan Robert Thomas. "This is the first bowl game we've all been able to go to as a whole family because of how expensive it was. We can drive over and take the whole family and its not going be too expensive. I love Vegas. It's gonna be great!"

Complete travel packages, which include bus trip, hotel accommodations, game tickets and tailgate activities, are available by calling the Fresno State athletic department at 278-4033.
