LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Fresno State senior safety Phillip Thomas arrived at The Walt Disney World Resort late Tuesday night ahead of The Home Depot College Football Awards show that is being televised live on ESPN, Thursday, Dec. 6 at 4:30 p.m. PT.
Thomas is one of three finalists for the Jim Thorpe Award that is given to the top defensive back in college football. The Award will be presented live from the Atlantic Dance Hall, on the Boardwalk at the Walt Disney World Resort during the broadcast of the show.
"I look forward to meeting all the athletes, hanging out with them and enjoying my time at Disney World," Thomas said. "I don't expect anything, I'm just excited to be here and I'm happy to be a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award."
Thomas is accompanied in Florida by his parents, Fresno State Director of Athletics Thomas Boeh and head football coach Tim DeRuyter.
On Wednesday, Thomas will partake in media interviews with the other awards candidates before joining everyone for the awards party at the ESPN Club. There, all the athletes will compete in an EA Sports Gaming Tournament.
On Thursday morning, Thomas will eat a breakfast hosted by The Chickasaw Nation and the Jim Thorpe Association with the two other finalists for the Thorpe Award - Mississippi State's Johnthan Banks and Alabama's Dee Milliner.
After a pre-show dinner and the ESPNU Red Carpet Show, the 2012 Home Depot College Football Awards ceremony will kickoff at 4:30 p.m. PT Thursday.
This year, the Jim Thorpe Award will be presented by Governor of the Chickasaw Nation, Bill Anoatubby, and legendary coach Barry Switzer.
