FRESNO, Calif.-- The Fresno State men's golf team teed off its spring season Feb. 11 at the Farms Collegiate Invitational in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. where Jack Mulroy took the lead in the 68-player tournament and placed first.

Mulroy, a London, England native, shot four under par, 68 in the initial round of play and then shot one over par, 73 in round two. The senior made one eagle and holds first place with a two-point lead at 141.

"Jack is playing great golf," head coach Mike Watney said.

The Bulldogs shot a 288-309--597 and sit in fourth place out of twelve teams.

Following Mulroy is Rufie Fessler and Troix Tonkham. Fessler (74-77--151) and Tonkham (70-81--151) are both tied for 18th place.

"Rufie and Troix had moments of greatness, but the difficulty of this golf course eventually got to them," Watney said. "However, we are looking forward to the challenge again tomorrow."

Fessler and Tonkham both made nine birdies during day one of the two-day tournament.

The Bulldogs return to action Tuesday, Feb. 12 for the third and final round of the Farms Collegiate Invitational with tee time set for 8 a.m. Pacific.
