Competition Underway in Hawai'i

    Day One Results

    KAUAI, Hawai'i -- The Fresno State men's golf team began competition on Wednesday, Feb. 19 in Kauai, Hawai'i at the University of Hawaii hosted John Burns Intercollegiate.

    Nate Jessup and Troix Tonkham took the lead among the Bulldogs to finish in a tie for 18th place. The duo shot an even 72 to trail the top-ten by one stroke.

    The Bulldogs recorded eight-over par, 296 to finish in a two-way tie for 13th place with St. Mary's. On the day, the 'Dogs made nine birdies.

    "Today we were very close to having a good round," head coach Chad Spencer said. "The leaderboard is very bunched so a solid finish the next two days will move us quickly in the right direction."

    No. 4 Cal leads the tournament at 10-under par, 278 and Erik Oja of Arizona leads the tournament among individuals at eight-under par, 64.

    The Bulldogs will continue competition on Thursday, Feb. 20 at Wailua Golf Course with tee times beginning at 10:30 a.m. PT. Follow live action of the John Burns Intercollegiate on www.golfstat.com and check www.gobulldogs.com for the recap.
